Top Tip: Get more discipline.

Discipline is one of those words that we don't like to think about, as it so commonly has bad connotations. It takes us back to dark school days, to images of a regimented lifestyle. It feels boring and old fashioned.

Instead we try and build will-power.  That is so modern, so positive, so…..right.

But will power usually fails. We tell ourselves we lack will power.

But maybe it is discipline we lack?

Losing weight, eating healthily and getting reasonably fit requires simple, basic discipline. The more disciplined we are, the easier it gets.  So build discipline.

Start with basics.  Clean your shoes and brush your teeth. Comb your hair.

Already doing that?  Good. Now start doing this. Make your bed as soon as you get out of it and leave the bedroom. Make it properly.

Empty the bins as soon as they are full. Don't wait until they are overflowing.

Clean those shoes again. Clean them daily.

Sit up straight. Don't slouch, take your hands out of your pockets.

Get your elbows off the table, don't talk with your mouth full.

Chew your food properly, keep your mouth closed.

Soften your tone, ask nicely, don't swear.

Don't be greedy.

Sometime in the past 30 years discipline became unfashionable and got replaced with do-anything-you-like.  But do-anything-you-like doesn't wake people up, or make them self aware, instead it encourages sloth, greed and the other deadly sins.

And deadly sins are called deadly for a reason. They prematurely end your life.

So when dieting and losing weight, go back to basics. Get disciplined, get fit.

Be happy and live long.
